K Altman Law Special Education Spotlight
Whether you have already met with our team of experts, or your consultation is coming soon, our Special Education Advocacy team at K Altman Law remains dedicated to supporting you and your family through your special education journey.
January is a good time to reflect on your child’s success this school year to determine if additional steps should be taken before losing any more valuable time.
Take this opportunity to consider the following:
Is my child thriving in their current program? Do services seem appropriate and reasonable?
Is my child consistently receiving the accommodations and modifications outlined in their IEP/504?
Have I received 1-2 progress notes already this year (along with report cards usually) outlining progress toward IEP goals?
Is the communication with my child’s team adequate? Are needs and concerns being addressed in a timely manner?
If your child is experiencing behavior issues, do you have a current Behavior Intervention Plan in place? Has it been reviewed or modified recently to address ongoing behaviors?
If you have answered ‘no’ to any of these questions, now is the time to contact the school to proactively address outstanding issues. Put your concerns IN WRITING to the school team and reach out to our office if you are not being taken seriously or aren’t sure what steps to take next. Your child’s education is too important to allow another year to slip away.
