Upcoming Webinar: Transition Plans in IEPs
Date: November 14, 2024 | Time: 5:00 PM EST
Transition plans are essential for helping students with disabilities smoothly shift from school to post-school life. In this webinar, we’ll explore how these plans guide students toward meaningful career, vocational, and educational goals by focusing on their strengths, interests, and future aspirations. With IDEA mandating transition plans by age 16 (and many states opting for age 14), we’ll dive into what these plans should include and how to secure the right services for your child’s successful transition into adulthood.

Amie Baek Joins K Altman Law as Associate Attorney
We are thrilled to announce the addition of Amie Marie Baek to K Altman Law as an Associate Attorney. Amie’s impressive background and dedication to both education law and client advocacy make her a valuable asset to our team and a strong ally for our clients. Amie earned her Juris Doctorate from Georgia State University College of Law, where she demonstrated her commitment to understanding the intricacies of education law, regulations, and student rights.
She was admitted to the North Carolina State Bar, bringing her expertise closer to her home state and reinforcing her commitment to representing clients within her community. Before law school, Amie completed her Bachelor of Arts in Sociology at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, where she developed a foundational understanding of social systems and the challenges individuals face within them—a perspective that continues to shape her approach to law today. In her role as a Law Clerk at The Law Office of Keith Altman, Amie honed her practical legal skills, specializing in handling complex issues within education law. Her responsibilities included conducting intake for consultations, performing comprehensive legal research with tools like LexisNexis+, and drafting pre-litigation demand letters, complaints, and motions. She was known for her meticulous attention to detail, often completing assignments with minimal supervision and requiring few, if any, revisions. Her commitment to quality and efficiency, paired with her effective communication skills, allowed her to work seamlessly with the legal team and coordinate directly with clients—a testament to her proactive and client-focused approach. Beyond her legal experience, Amie has a unique background working within the education system, which has strengthened her ability to advocate for students and individuals needing support. She previously served as a Teaching Assistant for Exceptional Children in Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools, where she supervised students with a range of learning and behavioral diagnoses, including ADHD, Oppositional Defiant Disorder (ODD), and Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD). Her hands-on experience with students in need of specialized educational support has given her an empathetic approach to her legal work. She provided both individual and group support for academic and social-emotional learning, and assisted in organizing support according to Individualized Education Programs (IEPs). Amie’s experience in education informs her understanding of the challenges students and families face, equipping her to navigate the legal landscape with a compassionate and knowledgeable perspective. Amie is also well-versed in the latest legal technology, including platforms such as Clio and LexisNexis+, as well as collaborative tools like Microsoft Teams and OneDrive, which enable her to manage cases efficiently and maintain a high standard of organization. Her ability to leverage these tools to streamline processes and facilitate communication reflects her adaptability and modern approach to legal practice. We are excited to welcome Amie to K Altman Law, confident that her diverse background, commitment to social justice, and advocacy for students will greatly enhance our capacity to serve clients with dedication and excellence. Amie’s arrival represents our continued commitment to building a team that not only excels in legal expertise but also understands the human element behind every case. Welcome, Amie Baek, to K Altman Law—we look forward to the impact you’ll make on our team and the clients we serve.
Keith Altman and his team proved to be an excellent choice to enable my son to get back into a University after an unfortunate incident on a major college campus 10 months ago. After an initial consultation, Keith assigned an advisor to my son’s case, Ms. Mallory Jones. I really like how Keith uses a team of professionals in the appropriate field of expertise in order to get positive results for his clients. Ms. Jones, a former teacher and school administrator, deftly navigated the tricky landscape of State and School Policies in order to assist my son in drafting timely responses and appeals to school correspondence and rulings. She also took the time to prepare him for the numerous interviews and Q&A sessions with his former and now current school. Ms. Jones made herself personally available to my family at any time, and was extremely responsive to questions and feedback we had during the entire process. She was a pivotal third party go-between the previous and current school to get my son’s situation resolved. I cannot stress how stressful the past 10 months have been for my family. Having said that, Ms. Jones rode the roller coaster with us daily, reassuring us the entire time that a positive outcome would eventually come. I highly recommend Keith’s firm to anyone who feels their child has been wronged by a particular institution, as he gets results! I am 100% positive that had we not had the means to enlist Keith and his team’s service, my son would have, at a minimum missed another year of higher education if not been able to ever attend college again. I am truly indebted to Keith and his team for the hours poured into my son’s case. Thank you.

I cannot recommend the Law Office of Keith Altman highly enough! From the very beginning, they provided us with exceptional service and support during a challenging time. Their professionalism and dedication to our case were evident in every interaction. What impressed me the most was their timely communication and willingness to go above and beyond to ensure we understood each step of the process. They made us feel valued and reassured, which made a significant difference in our experience. Because of the positive impression they left on us, my son has developed a strong interest in pursuing a career in law. He admired their expertise and the way they advocate for their clients, and it has inspired him to follow in their footsteps. Thank you, Keith Altman and Law, for your outstanding work and for inspiring the next generation of lawyers!

Amanda and the entire legal team at this law firm dedicated their utmost efforts to safeguarding our child. The case protracted beyond its initial timeline, necessitating an extensive investment of their time and expertise. The proceedings were arduous, and we express profound gratitude for their unwavering commitment. We particularly appreciated the appointment of an individual dedicated to ensuring that our child received the services stipulated in his Individualized Education Program (IEP). We cannot overstate our gratitude for their tireless efforts and unwavering commitment to our child’s well-being.
