Amelia (Amy) LaFont is a dedicated civil rights attorney with extensive experience advocating for students and educators in education law, special education, disability rights, Title IX, and student defense. She earned her Juris Doctor and Master of Public Service degrees from the University of Arkansas William H. Bowen School of Law and the Clinton School of Public Service in 2015. Early in her career, she worked alongside renowned civil rights attorney John W. Walker, a protégé of Justice Thurgood Marshall and Mr. Wiley A. Branton, contributing to key education-related cases, including successor cases to Cooper v. Aaron. Amy’s work spans litigation, constitutional law, and policy advocacy, with a strong focus on access to justice and
legal support for individuals facing systemic barriers.
Amy’s commitment to education and civil rights is deeply rooted in her background and public service. A Southeast Louisiana native, she was an Ignatian Scholar and Associate Editor of Blueprint for Social Justice at Loyola University New Orleans. Her career began in AmeriCorps and VISTA, where she led educational initiatives and community development projects in New
Orleans. She has mentored and taught students in conflict resolution, restorative justice, and environmental ethics across multiple states and Puerto Rico. Known for her pragmatic and tenacious approach, Amy combines strategic advocacy with a passion for justice, making a meaningful impact in schools, courts, and communities nationwide.
